Each one of us has our own special womb to womb lineage,
with a unique tone particular only to us, perhaps similar to another,
however no one female whakapapa is truly the same.

Perhaps you have a particular mother or grandmother in mind as you make your choice,
perhaps this little woman will symbolize your entire line, calling up the flavour of your own unique lineage,
perhaps she is you and represents your own story …

maybe she will hold for you the wisdom of the ancient mother that resides within us all.

OR

perhaps you are choosing for a family member, a dear friend,

or someone you know who would treasure of of these little Womb Women.

take your time, there is an array to choose from

Each little Womb Woman has been individually formed, shaped, sponged down, glazed and fired. Sometimes in the making I ask how would you like your body shaped? are your hips wide or narrow? what might the tilt of your head be? Are you carrying twins? Or are you only 4months along and so your belly is only beginning to grow… ... and then there are those that simply form in my hands in quiet moments without the pull of questions. Much is the same in the process of choosing a little woman. Your choice may have a deep reflective intention, it may be light-hearted and spontaneous. You may be choosing a little womb woman in honour of your grandmother who had wide shoulders and narrow hips, for a family member who has had breast cancer and a resulting mastectomy, perhaps for your daughter who is carrying her first child, perhaps you are pregnant with twins and so a big full belly is what your search will include... ...perhaps the blood of your ancestors who journeyed through Scotland and Ireland before landing here on the soil of Aotearoa is tugging at you and so the pale clay colourings with a hint of ginger in the glaze is pulling at some deep part of you,... ...perhaps the ancient lands where we all originated is beckoning so the depth of colour within the ebony black or dark earthy red clay’s will be your choice.  Your choosing may be for reasons of joy, celebration, grief, heartbreak, healing, loss, connection ... ...perhaps for a sense of belonging and knowing you are one of hundreds of thousands of voices within your own unbroken matriarchal DNA thread woven throughout the evolution of humanity. And sometimes a little womb woman is chosen spontaneously and randomly. These little womb women are made to be held. They fit snuggly in the palm of the hand ... ...they can hold sacred intention, they can act as a catalyst for re-connection with important women in and of our lives ... ...they can remind us that we have a voice and that our voice contributes to the collective story of herstory within the wholeness of humankind.

“Stories matter, you see.  They’re not just entertainment – stories matter because humans are narrative creatures.  It’s not simply that we like to tell stories, and to listen to them: it’s that narrative is hard-wired into us.  It’s a function of our biology, and the way our brains have evolved over time … if the mythology and history of our culture includes women who are wise, women who are powerful and strong, it opens up a space for women to live up to those stories: to become wise, and powerful and strong.  To be taken seriously, and to have our voices heard.”

~ Sharon Blackie (If Women Rose Rooted)
